Last week I checked with the dealer and it turned out that the iPod kit was compatible with my XC90 (an '07). It wasn't cheaper and came in at ~$750 installed less a 20% mail-in rebate (which max's at $100). I got in the truck, hooked up the iPod and couldn't figure out how to select the iPod as the stereo input. The Volvo symbol showed up in the iPod LCD, so the connection was good - but no audio...

The user manual shows "iPod" and "USB" being available from the select wheel. My stereo shows SR1, SR2, CD and AUX. In order for the iPod to work correctly the software patch AUU IPOD USB Application needed to be installed. I checked with the dealer and they confirmed that patch had been applied.

Took the truck back in and after 2 hours and 3 techs looking at - they said it needed two more UNDOCUMENTED software patches. Evidently where ever the download the patches, the patches were there. But their install documentation didn't say anything about having to load those patches.

Once they loaded those patches, now the selector wheel has six possible inputs (SR1, SR2, CD, AUX, iPOD and USB). All works now.

Hopefully this will help somebody else - because I wasted a couple days Googling this and came up with nothing. :)

The dealer installed mine, so you'd think they would know that. Fortunately we have more than one dealer near us, so I called one of the others and spoke with their tech. They didn't mention anything about the VIDA software, but they were quite confident the installing dealer missed the software install. Hopefully Google will pick up on these posts and somebody else can benefit. I certainly felt like a moron fooling with the stereo for hour and not being able to figure how to select the iPod! LOL
