I have just bought this as a project. I was a diesel mechanic and feel confident ot do the jobs but my problem comes as to making sure what grease I should use on the CV joint.

So before I go any further is there anyone out there who might be able to help me?

Should say on Log Book it dtaes First Reg 01 06 1997 (DECL/D MANUF 1996)

Have anyone found a good manual for this - Haynes told me they do not do one as there was not enough of this model made!

Thanks

I do not think there is any main difference on the kind of grease used on the CV joint (not fuel-dependent part), between a petrol or a diesel engine.

The grease that i used came with the CV boots, in the small box.

HOWEVER, that said, i know of a common practice where one would re-grease the CV joints, if they have become worn, to get the additional time needed, before the eventual and inevitable full replacement. And in those cases, i have seen some put in a common can-brand HeavyDuty grease. Nothing special, i guess. But i could be wrong.

Thank you for your help.

I have got over this problem of the grease. The CV Joints were in good condition and the grease I used was from Peugeot for their CV joints.

When I did have the Stub Axle from the hub I found inside the hub splines a compound. This compound was like glue/cement so do you think this is a particular thing that Volvo put on the splines? The splines seem to be in good condition and I wonder if it is just a precuctionery thing they put on. Anyway I cleaned it out and I do wonder if I have to put a 'new' compound from the Volvo garage if I have to. Does anyone know?

I am now onto Timing Belts. By first doing the Cambelt and then the Pump Belt. I understand they specify special tools for it and I have also found that you can use a paint stick to mark the position of the crank. I have made a tool, of my own design, to hold the crank.

I would love to find a workshop manual for this car but if anyone out there has the same vehicle and can tell me their 'stories' and show me the correct procedures and photos of the tools - brilliant.

Grateful again for any help and thank you for sharing your experience.

There already is a factory-set marking position to align the shafts. You can refer to Volvospeed for the photos. As for the tool to hold the cams, you can use a piece of dumb-wood for it. Should hold it just nice. :)
