My longtime mechanic recommended I pull my roof rack, said it'd improve mileage by 3 mpg. I just filled up for the second time since removing the stock rack. The first tankful was all freeway, & I got about 3.5mpg better, and the second was my usual type of driving, & I got almost 3 better. IPD sells a Roof Rack Plug kit, but your vehicle already has plugs, & all I had to do was cinch the mounting screws down, & voila! Plus it is a bit quieter. :)

the old round pipe roof racks were terrible drag-wise, but later, more streamlined ones have improved things. even so, the air going over the car is moving somewhat faster than the car istelf, and since drag increases at the cube of velocity changes, then you make perfect sense. Freeway speeds and headwinds are big killers of mileage on their own, extra drag sources can't improve things. Let alone what a loaded roof does to your cornering and braking.........

Hey thats a good improvement. I think the car looks better, smoother w/o the rack anyway. When I need a roof rack I have a yakima that can take a lot of weight.

Anything that saves some gas is good.
