My ABS light is on in my '97 850 and I can't seem to find any documentation on reading the codes. Is there some tool I could borrow to read the codes?

You'll need a scan tool to read the codes for that. The dealer can do it for you, for a price. The aftermarket shops can sometimes help, though.

The BEST and LONG-TERM function is to get a code reader for yourself and read it out.

:)

Cheers.

Autozone will read the codes for you on an OBD II vehicle for free.

it probably is the abs module. they are notorious for blowing out, but get the code reader anyway, it will pay for itself with every use.

If the error says something like the wheel signal is 'missing' or so, you may want to try cleaning the sensors on all the four wheels (do them all at one go is easier).

It has worked for me and a couple of buddies before. Over time, the brake components dust and debris settled in and caused a malfunction-reading.
