I havea 1999 Volvo S80 T6 with 205,00 KM or 120,000 miles.
My Lambda (Check Engine) sign is on and the CanOBD2 reader is giving me the code P0455 Evaporative system leak dected. After erasing the codes the sign disappears. Then after driving for a little the Information window tells me "Stop and check the fuel filler cap" Kind of it is open. If I stop and reclose it or just ignore the message, it soon disappears. Then a little later the Lambda sign is back on. Please advise on how can I repair it myself. Thanks for any advise.

Not sure if its the same code i have, but i also have a check engine light about my emission system. The problem with mine, at the same mileage, is the canister hose. its ripped right on the connection to the evap canister. The canister is is the back infront of the gas tank above the exhuast. They told me 25 dollars for parts and 200 for labor, i tried doing it myself but this was a little challenging. You would have to drop exhuast, remove wheel well on one of the sides(forgot which). If you get under the car and look around the front of the tank youll see the canister and the hose (its about 1" diameter) you can put your hand in to touch it but tools dont go in so easy. alot is built around it.

This is all assuming its the same thing, they figured this out at the dealer by injecting smoke into the system and seeing where it comes out. normally an 85, or so, dollar procedure, luckily they didnt charge me.

on my R, when i get that message, p0440, i think, it turned out to be the fuel cap gasket. so i bought a new cap. no hits since.

You are absolutely correct.......I think they built the car around the evap canister....I am having the continuous p0455 problem myself and thought I'd probe around......not as easy as vadis made it sound

Update to my last post.......

Pissed and confused......I went and got some fuel and noticed my filler neck was kind of dirty......wiped the inside and out side of filler neck with a damp towel to clean it off......its been four days and the code hasn't came back up(it was a daily thing for about two weeks)..

So after hours of looking for cracked lines and days of confusion......a 1 minute wipe down of the filler neck appears to have solved my problem....

Hope this helps

Thanks for sharing. But I got some more problems worser than this P0455. Please read on my P0121 which makes my car undrivable. I have posted a new topic to get some help. As soon as I fix this issue I will return to this EVAP stuff on my car and will keep you updated.
