hi could anyone tell me what sort of oil use i can expect on a T4 please?

i have now driven my car for around 1500 miles since i bought it. This has included a trip to scotland from the east midlands. 820 miles in two days.

car had just had oil and filter when i got it, so was up to the max mark on the dip stick.

If you look at the min to max on the dip stick in terms of 8ths, it is now at 7/8ths full. Does this seem about right, is it a normal amount for it to have got through?

Before i got this i had an alfa 146 that would use about half a litre per 1000 miles

My T4 doesnt really use any oil in between my 6-8k mile oil changes. Although that will vary from car to car. If thats all yours has used over 1500 miles then i wouldnt worry about it. Are you doing the servicing yourself or does a garage do it for you? and what oil are you using?

the car was serviced at the garage i bought it from before i picked it up, so i am not sure what is in it at the moment. i have a very trusted mate who works on my cars so he will be looking after it from now on.
i used to run my alfa on mobil super S semi synthetic 10W40, i thought about using this or does it need 10W30?

I switched from a semi to a fully sythentic on my car. One of the best oils out there is Silkolene PRO S and the grade i used was 5w-40 its not cheap but I figured if it helps prolong the life of the turbo/engine then I would use it(my car was used very hard). That grade is also thinner when cold so the starter doesnt have as much work to do turning the engine over. You can buy it from www.opieoils.com but if you do want to buy it join one of the websites that gives you discount and that saves a few quid. I was a memebr of www.audi-sport.com but there are loads out there.

what is the grade of oil volvo recommends? ie 10w30 / 10w40 etc etc
