Yes, Made some calls. The best on was the clerk at the dealer chuckling "Why heavens no!" then i think i heard crickets. Unless i unarm the factory alarm and NEVER reactivate it, install a whole new alarm with full shave job and electronic release and remote start, then it might work.. Be my luck the car will arm its self. and i will be grounded. I guess i just need a key fob. but i dont know wher to start but the dealer, sure ther is a lesser way? No need to start a new topic, what sould i do bout the fob? and does the 850 alarm have a audible alert for arming and disarming? Beep..... Beep-Beep!

actually bro, i just found out that our 850's DO beep when the alarm is armed. i never knew this, the alarm speaker is under the hood, back by the firewall, dead center. right next to the horizontal motor mount. it looks like a ufo. hell, mine never worked. hope you get yours to work. good luck.

yea, i kinda did... unplug one of your primary horns. plug it into the harness for the alarm horn. Walaa! go get you another primary horn. My alarm goes audible during a breach, but silent with key operation. i have no key pads, never had anny. going to try this ebay site but im not sure if mine had one. or how to program it.

the alarm will sound if you try to get in, just when you arm it it stays silent. like it's sending out a signal through mental telepathy. -cue weird music- maybe dogs can hear the system arming, don't know. i just watch the door knobs go down, then i know it's locked. anyway, there's a twelve gauge ready for the moron who gets past the gates and roll down.

This is an 850, with no concerns of adding a remote starter. Your factory immobilizer should just be a fuel shut off relay which is easily bypassed, that is to say if you even have one. Find some better pros, or tell your installer to grow a pair. Good Luck

Depends on what you consider an everyday install. The question is do you want to do the installation yourself or pay someone to do the work? BTW, we really should have a pinned remote start post for all Volvo models to eliminate this timeless question.

A friend's 855T5 also has the remote-starter set installed in his car. Thus far, the only problem he has ever faced was weak batteries. So, that made him run all the way outside in his bath towels to shut the alarm off, before more neighbours make noises.

HEHE.

What a way to start the day, eh?
:D

Story is good, but would be better if there was snow on the ground.

Installing a remote start is no problem. Mine works as follows:
Click the remote start button twice and the lights blink.
The door unlock (this disarms the factory alarm)
The car starts
The car locks and re-arms itself.

So the point is yes, you have to bypass the factory alarm and you do that by unlocking the doors. Set the remote start to delay 10 seconds which gives plenty of time for the doors to unlock.

Hope this helps
