Hello,

I recently got a 1997 850. The alternator has gone bad, so they said at autozone, and I need to remove the one in there, and get a new one. I need the instructions on how to remove the alternator. If you could please let me know.

Thanks in advance,

Hi,

I checked out the link, and it is somewhat helpful. I also got the Chilton book and it is not very detailed as to how many bolts, and where they are. I almost have the PS pump, and the tension thing off. However, it will not come off. It does move somewhat, but something is still holding it on.

Does anyone have a detailed explanation of how many bolts, and which ones, where they are to get this part off so I can access the alternator?

Thanks in advance,

The guides that Volvo-Al gave seems adequate enough to complete the task. Are you still stuck, lost_in_volvo_land?

I'm trying to follow the instructions for replacing the alternator on my 1996 855. (http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/index.php/topic/63411-alternator-replacement/)

The problem comes with step seven, which reads:

7) Undo the long alternator bolt in the bottom of the alternator towards to the engine side. I used a 1/2" ratchet to undo it. You have plenty room down there for using any "big" ratchet.

The problem is that for two days I've tried everything I can think of to remove the bottom alternator bolt, but am at wit's end.

Can anyone give me any suggestions? I'm in serious trouble here.

Thanks.

What seems to be the hold-up?

Is the bolt stuck, or you cant get to the area for working?
