So I - unsuccessfully - tried to refinish my 17" tethys in chrome. I have spent the last couple of days after work sanding each one down again and prepping for a new finish.

Gunmetal gray is the color I'm going with.

I washed first. Then sanded 100 grit down to primer, then quickly sprayed off the dust.

I will be sanding with 220 grit today, spraying off dust, then using steel wool, spraying again, and wetsanding with 400grit.

After that's done I will give a thorough cleansing and hosing.

I will then tape off and prime with non-etching dupli-color gray primer, (2) coats.

Then I plan on masking off everything but the rim flange.

I will paint the rim flange in dupli-color silver wheel spray, 2-3 coats as I think may be desired.

I will then mask off the rim flange at the width I want (I'm thinking... 1cm???), then paint with 2-3 coats of dupli-color gunmetal wheel spray, 2-3 coats depending on how it comes out.

After it all dries I will take masking off of metal, and put on 2-3 coats of dupli-color clear coat.

I'll post before and afters, and le tme know if you think I should do anything else different.

*** oops... can somebody move this to wheels??/

Moved to wheels at posters request. Make sure you shoot lots of pics. Sounds like a great mod.

After washing, then steel wool, then wet 400 grit sanding.

My recommendation for anybody else that decides to do this to skip the 100 grit sanding. Only use the 100 grit for the rim where you have curb rash.

I found that I actually over-sanded and took the original primer off which sucked. I skipped the 100 grit sanding on the front wheels and IMO they turnedo ut better.

I will post pictures of the final product after tonight - I want to get her washed before displaying her body all over the internet....

Oh yea more to come sorry I'm slow on the updates. And this is another teaser. The rims have been finished but I've been in-between apartments for the past week and haven't had the time to find the camera and take more pictures. I promise this week though.
