Please excuse me if you saw this posted in the 940/960 page, I wasn't aware there was a car audio page to post on.

I'm replacing the 4 door speakers and the factory stereo in my '93 volvo 940 wagon and i've got the speakers in but needed some help with the stereo install. I've ordered all my stuff through Crutchfield, but there wasn't a master sheet for this specific car so im kinda on my own for the instructions.

I received two wiring harnesses, one that connects to the factory wiring in the compartment that houses the stereo, and one that connects to the factory amplifier located under the stearing column. First of all, I didn't know this car had a factory amplifier, so can anyone explain to me how I hook this wiring harness up to it? (I removed the panels to get access to underneath the stearing column and I think i located the amplifier, but i couldnt figure out how the wiring harness plugs into it..)

Secondly, my new stereo head unit has a wire to connect to a ground source. If any of you guys have installed a new stereo in a vehicle like this, where did you connect your ground? I can see a couple various bolts in the back of the stereo slot, is that where I should connect it to?

Last question, The factory stereo had a cable plugged into it that is fairly thick, black, has a circular connecter with (i think) 5 prongs inside of it. What is this cable for? My new stereo doesn't have a space to plug this in..

Thank you very much for any help. As you can tell im new to the whole car audio scene and any information is much appreciated as I do not have any instructions specific to my car. Thanks

Looks like you are as bad as me with new toys...staying up all night to get it installed and working :P. I've pulled several all-nighters installing stereo stuff...what fun :)

Hopefully you figured out all your questions, but in case others come by and wonder the same things, here a couple quick answers:

1. The round plug/wire is the CD changer control wire. Most volvo's seem to have this wire installed whether they actually had the cd changer or not. It generally is not designed to be used with any after market head unit.

2. The amp wiring harness, I am not positive on but should either plug in directly to the amplifier in place of the original one, or plugs into the other end of the wires (near the head unit).

3. A ground. Basically you can either use existing ground wires already wiried in by the factory (if you locate it, I believe it is usually a black wire and the factory volvo head units I have seen have a couple ground wires, not just one). You can also just ground it to any metal surface in the vehicle, but using existing bolts or whatnot. Some head units, amplifers and such require the ground to be hooked up before they will even turn on, so make sure you hook it up.
