Gents

I live here in Largo Fl and yesterday we had a vicious rain storm and my wagon got flooded out. A non- Volvo mechanic said the engine was seized up because water got into the engine through the air intake (Confirm the air filter was soaked). Electrical system still works but engine will not turn. I need your help in recommending a good Volvo repair person in the local area. The wagon only has 32k miles on it and do not want to junk it. I know if I take to dealer, will get get killed. Open for suggestions. Please feel free to email with POC info.

Thanx
Eon

You're in Largo, Florida?

Try contacting Tech. I dont know how bad the situation is, but i bet you he'd be able to tell. May need to remove the engine to know more, though.

He's somewhere near Disneyland. You can try to PM him.

I'm absolutely astounded any mechanic, Volvo or non-Volvo would even attempt to crank an engine if he harboured the slightest suspicion the engine might be hydro-statically locked-up.

If a person thinks this is the case, the first thing to do is remove all the spark plugs so when the engine is cranked over it can eject the water out of each cylinder through the spark plug holes.

This is absolutely necessary because it's so simple to bend a connecting rod when a large force (piston) tries to shift an immovable object (non-compressible water).

I hope no substantial engine damage has been done to date.

Best of luck!!

Spoke to guy tonight and will try and have car towed over there tomorrow. Will let you guys know more. I know this will cost but love the wagon or as i call call it the "Chick Magnet"

Thanx

You've got to love Florida this time of year. My daughter's 960 had the same thing happen last Sunday, 100 miles from home, in Orlando. We are waiting to hear the verdict from the shop.

Good luck with yours,
Gary

UPDATE:

Her engine was hydro-locked and is considered totaled! Insurance company isn't offering nearly what it will take to replace the car. I have been happier with my insurance company than these guys. The company I use goes by KBB values not what is advertised for sale.

Once again I wish you the best with your car.

Gary

Gents

A quick update on the "Chick Magnet". I had to spend $2.5 K to bring back to life. The diagnosis was was a bent connecting rod on cylinder 1. Volvo tech pulled head and sump pan and pushed out piston. had cylinder scored out and replace piston, rings, connecting rod, bearing and top and bottom seals. This car has a crap load of seals. He also changed out the coolant level sensor as he was piddling around in the engine compartment. Parts ran about $900 and labor $1500. They did not pull engine out. That I thought was strange, but he say it would cost more. Pick up last Friday and boy it drives great. it now has 31K miles. Will let you know more as it develops.

Thanx
