I totaled my 95 850 a couple months back and I want to get back into another volvo. Im thinking something a little newer (maybe 97-99) and somehting around the same style as my 850 glt 5 speed. Any suggestions of good makes/years? Thanks for any input!

I would think, given the year range and desire for something "around the same style" that you're probably looking for an S70 (or V70 - wagon). I'm sure they're nice and all, but I've never had one so I can't really say. My thoughts tend to focus on the long term cost of ownership, and as such, something to consider: all Volvo's after '95 require premium. All Volvo's '95 and older take regular.

Me personally, I'd look for a '95 or older in good shape, if for no other reason than just the savings in fuel cost.

about requiring premium fuel (which i didnt realize)...how much will performance change if premium isnt run in it? Right now I really am looking into a S70.

first, the s70, and v70, are both 850's with newer clothes, up until the 2000 model year. i think. second depends on what grade, if you get a turbo and run 87, you might experience knock. def a reduction in power, how much, not sure. but i driven an s60R and put in 91 instead of 97 and i felt a reduction of power. on my R, i've run 87 and have seen a big drop in power, and then realized that i had put in the wrong fuel went home and syphoned it out half way and topped it off with 97.
