my 81 dl wagon was making a wonderful whining noise under the floor board behind the driver's seat. replaced the in tank pump. getting ready to replace the external pump. looked at the fuel pump relay and noticed that it is pretty fried. Okay, no big deal, replace that too. problem is the connector for the relay is pretty shot as well. does anyone know where i can get another connector to splice into the harness? the obvious answer is probably a salvage yard, but not having too much luck with that. is there anywhere that i can find one new? or is there any way to hard wire the relay into the harness. any answers would help at this point. really want to get my car back on the road. thanks. volvoqueen.

Yours is the green fuel pump relay with six pins?

New relay sockets are slim pickins. Best bet is a junkyard, as you said. Make a few phone calls and I guarantee a junkyard operator will pull the part and UPS it to you. Naturally he wants to be paid.

In the meantime I would jumper it with alligators and just drive around waiting for the brown truck.

Hi Volvo Queen. I would try a salavage company I was turned on to by IPD, it is in California, there name is Vands Auto Dismantler. The phone is 916-635-9970, ask for Derrick he is a lot of help. I was able to find a fuel sender unit, and a hard to find molding (silver and black rubber) for my passenger side back door.

Good luck, and happy motoring.......... Volvo For Life

Also check out car-part.com

I've used them for HVAC stuff on a Ford and had three responses within two days.

also there is a venting thing off the fuel tank that sits in the boot/trunk [on RHS in Oz model] that can make a huge racket, and I think one version was subject to a recall
