I've been told that all I have to do to run my 1992 Volvo 940 turbo diesel which is fitted with the VW D24tic 2.4 6cyl inline engine with intercooler and the Bosch fuel pump, is to make sure the fuel lines are hard plastic and not rubber and be prepared to change my fuel filter a couple of times shortly after the changeover from diesel to biofuel. Can anybody advise on this or does anyone have first hand experience of running one of these engines on biodiesel? Many thanks

tbh mate, you can take any diesel car on the road and pour chip fat from a deep fat fryer in it and it will work the same. mythbusters proved that with a diesel merc ...

prob best to filter that first though. i dont see any reason why you should change your engine just to run bio-fuels... filter changes hose and pump should be sufficient. maybe injectors.

Of course i do not recommend running your car on any such 'free' fuels like chip fat as it will invalidate the cars warranty and here in the uk if your found by a random DVLA spot check to be running it, or at an mot they find residue or emissions that would ocnflict with standard diesel emissions and did a fuel test you can be heavily fined, and face imprisonment.

Hi Matt

It's been legal to run cars on veggie oil in this country for some time but you must keep all your receipts and pay vat if you use over a certain usage per annum
