I have posted on a few Volvo sites, but I do not think I posted here yet. I would appreciate any input.

My 2002 S80 T6 (84k) dealer maintained (Mobil 1 and otherwise spoiled from day one) has been better than the average S80, but recently the power steering started to groan at very low speed/virtual stop turns. I checked the fluid and it was at the add point so I topped it up. Slightly less groaning, but still annoying.
I had an independent and the dealer look it over. The indy said no sign of rack problems, sound is from the pump and it was fine to live with just watch for leaks and keep the fluid up. He also made some comment to the effect of it was not all that loud I should hear some of the Fords he works on. Dealer said replace the resevoir (they leak), the pump (possible sign of small leak on back side of pump), the hoses (maybe but no sign of leaks) and that the rack looked good.

Other than the nosie at very low speed turns the steering is perfectly fine.

I replaced the pump (after market Volvo site) and the resevoir (OEM dealer) and put in new screw type hose clamps. I bled the system by stop to stop turning with a 1-2 second pause at the stop. Lots of bubbles and added fluid and eventuall pretty quite. I still had a slight groan at full stop turning. I figured some air still needed to work out, so I would just drive it, that was 5 days ago (driven three days say 60 miles) This slight groan comes and goes and is sometimes worse than slight (but not as bad as it was with the old pump). I notice in the past two days if it sits over night it seems to drop the fluid level a little and I have no groaning. I top it up and even when I try to make it groan it does not. About 15 minutes of driving later I start to get groaning! Does this suggets air is getting into the system as I drive, but out as it sits?

I did a full fluid exchange with the green stuff per the dealer when I replaced the pump. It is still light clear green.

I guess I can start with hoses and high presure line replacement, but the parts are $$$ and repalcement looks like a pain and neither the dealer nor the indy noted a sign of leaking on the hoses. I see none from above and nothing on the cardboard I put under the car the past two days. I have not yet jacked it up to check the lines myself but will do so. Any possibility that getting the air out takes time and the coming and going nature of the noise is not unusal?

Thanks

Thanks
