I just did my struts on my volvo 850 a couple days ago.........All u need is a spring compressor and a little elbow grease............the person who quoted u 1200.00 is out they dam mind................it does not even cost that much..........Look on ebay for ur strut mounts and seat springs($100.00) because that is the most common problem for the struts on Volvos................Honestly it took me and my brother about a couple of hours to do both sides..........its pretty simple...........after u get the wheel off, just remove the hub(2screws),remove the 3 bolts that hold the struts assembly in place and the strut will come fallen down. Ur gonna need a impact drill to get the top bolts off the strut...........after the first bolt, use the spring compressor(rent from autozone for 40.00 dollars)clamp it down and remove the remaining bolt from the strut..............the struts mount plate and the seat spring will slide rite off.........just go in reverse to assemble back together...........really easy.........better if u got two people..............that was just a brief session........hope it helps............

g'day folks. I've been searching the posts to see what my 98 v70's rattling problem might be and it seems very common that the strut mount and/or bushing might be bad. The steering wheel and front end in general rattles/rumbles/shakes a ton while turning right and just a little on the straights.

I originally brought it to a local shop who promptly replaced the ball joints ($650) which didn't fix a thing. When I brought it back they told me everything was "tight and right" until I pointed out my guess. They kind of agreed. Since they want almost $400 to do just the mount, I decided to do it myself. I haven't done it yet.

I wasn't going to post anything until I read something about the engine mount (damper?) on the top of the motor. Mine appears broken, at least the rubber inner portion.

Would this also contribute to the rattle/rumble?

Thanks for your help...
