very odd , my drivers side wiper didnt work . I could hear the gear moving but nothing happening . So my mechanic friend and I dig into it . seems long story short is that the previous owners use a wiper blade on the drivers side that was way too long and eventually wore down to the metal and continued to use it and it scrapped across the frame of the window, causing so much drag on it over time it wore through it and popped the wire out of the pulley that runs the drivers side wiper. 30 minutes later I know have the worlds loudest wipers , lots of creeking and growning on the wipers , this vehicle sat for the better part of 3 years before I got it . also did compression check , 155,150,152,148 hope thats good for a motor with 202,000 on it

7lbs/sqin spread @ mean of abt 153, not too bad at all. had you put a few drops of oil into each cylinder and retested we'd know even more, but it's still ok. Worry when spread exceeds 10lbs or mean gets down to 130- ish. It should smoke by then. FYI VW beetles run well at 100 for a long time, then degrade quickly when below 90. They are only abt 7.5:1 compression tho'. Glad to here abt the wipers, I heard (long ago) of wipers shearing off when frozen to windscreen in West Tasmanian winter.
