hey all, i just got a call from the speed network about my applications for "pinks". at the prodding of my brothers and nephews, i entered both the impala and the R for consideration. because of location changes and the fact that if i turn my back on my employees they effin goof off, i had to accept the status of alternate racer. if all goes well, i will be racing mid to late august in florida. sarrasota if i am not mistaken. now the mrs, the kind hearted soul that she is, is worried sick. not that i might lose one or both of the cars. no, she is worried that i might win one or both of the competitors cars. ain't married life great. besides the fact that she told me she would miss the impala if i lost. what a vote of confidence, eh? anyway, i'll let you all know how it went. trust me, you will all hear it. see you all on the forums. H-

Good Luck Greek :trophy:

Maybe you should go ahead and reserve a car carrier for the trip back :)

Would love to go watch, as I have family in Sarasota, but they will be in Indiana at the time.

And, yes, it is racing for Pink Slips. "Pinks" is the name of the show on SpeedTV where the loser, loses their car. They have site for the show on their website. I think it's linked at www.speedtv.com

yes syko, it's lose the race lose the ride. you sign over the car at the beginning of the race and then you go heads up. negotiate if yours or the other car is faster. winner takes all. i have to re-dyno both and send it to them. then there is going to be first trial for a base run/time. i will be basically a back-up racer in case the first choices don't show. unless someone wants to race me, then it falls to me. i can't wait. crap, after i posted this this morning, i started everything in the ovens and went trolling for some blood. found an audi TT on the belt parkway and ate him. while i was slowing down, a Z06 blew past me, thought about it, just as i was going to press the button and open her up, hey he was motioning me to catch up, there was mister police man on the shoulder, hiding in the bushes. so i got off the highway. i think mr. Z06 got caught because the disco lights came on and i past the police. he was in an unmarked interceptor ford. no biggie. but i thought, i don't want to push it, so i came back, pulled a burnout in the loading dock, and went inside and yelled at the employees for goofing off. now if there were some wenches around, it would be a good day. of course, the wife walked in two minutes later and asked who left the marks in the lot. who else? thanks for the confidence guys.

Can you put advertisements on your car? Maybe drop the forum's website somewhere...hehe.

I didnt see Sarasota listed in their schedule, but they dont appear to show the schedule too far in advance. Besides the shows aren't live, so who knows when it might actually get put on TV.

I would think if they had a Volvo tearing up someone else, they would choose to show it :P

Be sure to wear your helmet and buckle your seat belt. . . and then WASTE THE SUCKERS!!!! We'll be pulling for you. You could always stop in Kentucky and show me the cars you won racing on Pinks.

u sure u wanna loose the volvo - if you loose. i'd give anything a go in my 940, but i would actuall commit mass murder if they wanted my car

I was curious as well, in regards to how they match people up.

I would assume (if I understand correctly), that since you have to have a new dyno done, that they would be matching cars up by power and possibly weight to produce the closest match they can. Of course that would be limited by what is actually entered.

I would love to see you wipe the floor with someone in your Volvo though :)

It would be ashame if the person in front of you (the non-alternate) had something temporarily wrong with his car at the time. Where does he live again? lol

they posted sarasota to me as the place for alternates. if i get called, then i would proceed to the actual raceway. they place the cars according to weight and power. also, fwd to rwd, awd, etc. i mean ,you've seen the pickups going on against the mustangs, etc. i am contemplating making a vinyl for placement on the window of the R. i have to post to admin and ask if it's okay. i figure, hey if i win, it's a win win situation for the forum. not only did a volvo draw blood, but it was a moderator car too. woooooooooohoooooooooooooooo. okay, enough of the pumping up, there are some serious cars out there. when i am contacted as to time and place i will post and hope that some of you guys can come out and cheer me on, live!!!!!! that would be sweet. and honestly, i was talking it over with the ever intelligent mrs last night about if i did win, what would i do. i really don't want their cars, might actually just either give it back to the owners, being a snub or not-don't care, or just auctioning the cars off and giving the proceeds to a charity. well, the mrs was real impressed with my maturity ?????? me? damn, i'm getting old. i told her that i would, unless it was a hemi cuda or something like that, then sh*t, you would have to pry those keys out of my cold dead fingers. hahahahahahahahahahahaha, then she just nodded her head and said, that's more like you. and syko, you are right, it would kill me, hell the impala would probably drive me to jump off a building after the amount of money i have put into it, but in the long run, if it loses, then it wasn't that fast to begin with, right?

I would be ina bit of a delima too if I won...I'm not sure what I would do with the new car. It would depend on what the car was though.

However, I would also consider selling the car I won to do some of the more expensive modifications to my existing car. I guess that would depend on the state of my current car. Of course, you could always offer the car back to the loser at a reduced cost, so he can get his car back (if he wanted it), and you still end up with the on-tv win and some prize money.

As you say though, most people who probably enter will be serious competitors, and I doubt it will be a piece of cake to walk out of there the winner.

If it wasn't so far away, I would certainly consider trying to make it to cheer ya on, but Florida is a bit too far for me to do.
