My 740 generally has very good brakes but occasionally, often after hard use, the pedal goes hard with no retardation. Anyone have any ideas what it may be. Thanks John

exactly that, hard usage. it'll either, the pedal, go straight to the floor, or it'll go hard and be hard to stop. change the pads to a more aggresive compound. try ebc "green" of the brand that ipdusa.com sells. unless there is a brand in france that is specially made for "spirited driving". be safe and keep us posted.

brake fade, i have this in my 740 ... check my gallery to see why.

I have tried ebc green stuff greek, i hated them, once they got hot they were useless. I found my local car spares bog standard ones are the best for me, Delphi Lockhead pads. they are cheap as chips, but they are bloomin good!!

i have tried mintex, pagid, ebc green, red and black, black diamond ... all i experienced massive fade when they got hot from general braking, as my 740 weighs a ton. I have also found keeping them cool to be a trick aswell.

I bought some flexible metal ducting and rigged a system through front of the car under to the brakes when your flyng along they have cold air onto them to keep them sharp
plus when you use them they heat up, when you race off again they get cooled.

Matt

you know the weird thing is, that before i changed the rotors on the 850, i ha the same problems with fade, but with the switch to larger rotors, it is not as much a problem anymore. sure, after a, ahem, spirited run, they will be on the mushy side until they cool off, but come back hard again. the reason i like them is that the initial bite of them is usually more than enough to settle the car for me to get on the boost again during a turn or when some bimbo on her cell phone cuts across three lanes of traffic in front of me. or some shmuck in his suburban decides that he wants to check out my brakes thinking i am running to close to his rear. anyway, the only ones that lasted longer than the ebc's were the mintex, but the brake dust was horrendous to get off. the ebc's dust cleans off easier, don't know why.

yes i know, i have black diamond discs. think its more of a personal preference and whether you keep them cool or not
