My car is haveing some issues. Ive had this 2001 s80t6 for about 2 months now. It seems like every other day im finding something new that grrrrs me..seat vibrates like a cheap hotel bed when moving it forward or backwards. The lights on my dash just around the stereo face and buttons dont light up so I cant see the stereo at night. My volume button on my steering wheel doesnt work ( prolly related to the lights issue) Turbo kicks on and off still and getting worse. Evreytime i park on any slant it's feels like im gonna rip the trany out getting outtta park. ...And heres the weirdest thing of all , several times now i have gotten into my car only to find that my air vents are still blowing ? Is this normal? The key is out and i was away from the car for a few hours . I even locked the doors. Why the hek would my vents be blowing if im not in the car? Nor should there be any power to them without the keys?...someone wanna help me out on that one....Thanks to anyone who replies. ....Im a little confused about my purchase of this car and if it was a right choice or not!....

Hi There,

The air vents blowing is perfectly normal, I agree though, it's a bit weird lol. The reason is, after about 45 minutes of you leaving the car locked they will periodcally turn on to dry out the air con system to prevent mould from forming and also to keep the car at a decent temperature inside I guess too, mostly to stop mould I reckon lol.

The thing with the lights not turning on...Try having a look at the lighting control panel, its the small square panel by the steering wheel with the light controls on. Try using the two potentiometers that adjust the beam length and lighting power and make sure they both work (the lighting power one only works at night as it assumes in the sunlight you will want full brightness) if the power one doesnt work (Mine didn't) none of the panel lights light up properly if at all, you can probably get one off ebay, the ones from V70 work in the S80 but you need to remove the circuit board and put it in your original panel to make it fit.

Hope this helps :)

Josh

The vent piece sounds pretty typical, espicially in the summer months when it is more humid. The car is just drying the vents out, it's a Volvo thing (I'm sure some other European cars do this too).

If your radio lights and steering wheel controls are not working, there is a good chance the radio was replaced and the software not updated to reflect the new stereo. This is a dealer trip, but most likely it would fix the problem.

The incline piece, very typical of a lot of cars, it's not really hurting the transmission. The struggle you are having shifting out of park is due to a pin that has all the pressure put on it in the transmission. The best way to help prevent this is to engage the parking/emergency brake before placing the car in park. This way you are putting more of the pressure on the parking brake versus the transmission pin.

Hey thanks for the quick responses guys. Im happy to hear my cars not haunted by a freakish air venting ghost. Good thinking on volvos part . I think they have saved many dogs lives with the vents turning on like that. lol.. And as far as the lights go ive tried the little knobs by the steering wheel and nothing still. I made an appointment with the dealer since i just got this car a month ago these things have to be covered by warrantee . I hope atleast if not i'll be doin the fixing with your guys help..lol.. Oh and im gonna have to adjust the Ebrake to work better because even when i engage the brake before putting it in park on a hill it has the little bit of roll back when i letg off the brake and that little bit is apparently to much...Catch 22 my ol lady can't unset the brake when i pull on it to hnard,,,lol,, funny how she was stuck home for 2 hours waiting for me to undo it.. It's really not at all hard either i guess shes a wuss...lol. anyways thanks guys preciate the feedback . Im sure i'll be back real soon since it is a s80 t6 .. lol..

The seats you can probably grease up with some lithium grease, theyre probably dry. And the radio does sound like its froma different car, if its not functioning correctly by itself and with the steering wheel remote.

Tightening of the ebrake is easy, you click to open your armrest, you pull up the plastic/leather cover from the ebrake, and you use a 10mm wrench to tighten in from there.
