I bought an OBDII reader so I can watch over my 2004 V40 myself. Car is all clear but I can't get all the systems up and ready after doing an erase. I have looked around and have found some ridiculous methods to get everything online. I hope that I don't really have to get a stopwatch and drive the car in certain gears, start and stop and start and highway and then stop and go etc... Anyone able to enlighten me?

I dont understand what you mean get the systems online. The OBD2 reader cannot reprogram anything only erase stored/current fault codes. So nothing will have been wiped but these, there must be another problem if you ECU has lost data(or your reader has some how managed to bugger it but thats unlikely).

What were the codes you had and initial symptoms you bought the reader for and what are now not working?

I actually got everything to read ready. What I meant by online was that all engine test were completed and passed. Day to day driving for 4 days seemed to meet all the necessary criteria for all test but from what I have read from others I may have been one of the lucky ones!

Report:

I also have a new obdII reader ... I found that you needed to clear the codes when the key was turned on but not
started yet. Then turn the key off... recycle the obdII reader then turn the key on (let it sycn up ) then start the car ... strange but true ...I hope this helps...
