I have a 2002 s80 t6 with 130k on it that the battery keeps getting to low to start my car (rapid clicking) about every 2-3 weeks. I have tested the battery and it holds a charge and I took off the alternator to replace it but it tested “good”. No lights are being left on and this all started about 1.5 months ago.

Any help please?

Thanks, Josh

Hi Josh. One question... When this happens, I take it you are fully charging with a battery charger to get back to normal ? If so you probably need a new battery. S80 is a greedy pig when it comes to battery. Also worth mentioning... You need to sort this out sooner rather than later because if it keeps happening it's more than likely gonna currupt the info on the computer and that's a nightmare. Random fault messages on your dashboard and random things not working or working incorrectly. Believe me you don't wanna go there mate.

I would try a new battery if you haven't already done so. Battery tests are a bit unreliable. They test a battery's ability to supply a high current for a short period of time only.

Also look for any non-original accessories that might have been fitted by a previous owner which might not be installed corrrectly. EG constant 12v supplying a handsfree kit where it should be a switched supply. These things aren't a problem when the battery is new and healthy but tend to show up when the battery is getting tired.

I hope this is of some help.

Keep me posted.

I had the same symptoms, three shops checked the battery (including dealer) all said the battery was ok. It would go dead every few days, charge it and it would work again for awile. Finally put in a new battery and the problem was solved. That was 2 years ago.

Thank you for the info guys.

I am charging it back up just like you said Brian. There is nothing aftermarket on the car but the K&N airfilter.

I will pick up a new battery today and let you know if I am dead in the water again in the next 3 weeks.

I can just confirm the statements below. My S80 2001 had the same problem. Battery check was fine, charging >13V was fine but as soon as the car wa soff for more than 4h I could not start it any more, no matter who long it ran before.
A new battery helped, problem is gone since 2 weeks now.

:) Agree with others, a new battery..My 02 S80 died last Saturday, and thinking back the previous 3/4 days started differently, (sound and time needed)., also at one stop could'nt get the key fob to lock the car...(This should have been an awakning sign for sure)...
New battery solved the problem., BUT, WOW...$99.99 for a Bosch, 96 month warranty, first 36 mo. free repalcement..That takes some of the sting out of the cost...The old battery was orginal so they do last a long time, especially since where there placed in the trunk and not in the engine compartment...
