After replacing the PCV kit on my 1995 Volvo 850 GLT I now have a problem that my odometer is not working and my radio is showing a cod2. Any ideas on what I might have done to cause this problem. My car is running fine. I did disconnect the battery for 10 hours while I was working on the PCV.

Please note the error in my post. I meant PCV, not PVC.

Your radio is doing exactly what is expected of it, if you remove the battery for 10 hours. It just needed the code to be entered.

Once you do that, then settled.

As for your odometer, i do not think it is related to the PCV kit replacement.
It is prolly broken and needs attention.

Cheers.

Thanks for the heads up. You were right. After I posted my issue, it occurred to me that it might be a code. I found it in the glove box in the owner's manual. I reset the radio and it is fine. I also put the code in a safer place. I bought the car 2nd hand and didn't realize it was still in the car. Not a good idea!

I hear what you are saying about the odometer. It just seems like such an unlikely coincidence that it went out right after my repair.

I have researched the odometer issue. What they suggest replacing is a $29 gear. It might just be worth getting it since I saved ~$500 doing the PCV repair myself.

I contacted my local Volvo repairman and he said the the PCV repair was unrelated and that the odometer was probably broken. I ordered the gear for $25 from Groton. They also had the repair instructions on-line.

http://www.fcpgroton.com/product-exec/prod...category_id/161

It took me about 1 1/2 hours to replace the gear. One tooth was broken off the gear I took out. The odometer now is working just fine. BTW, the Volvo repairman estimated $500 for replacing the instrument cluster. It was certainly worth my time! The hardest part of the job was getting the faceplate off the instrument cluster. As Groton' s site said, you have to work around the faceplate as if you were opening a paint can (Step 21)

Just a word of warning, in Step #7, just flip up the 2nd latch like you had to do in Step #6. Don't pry it up.
