Hey all, I have a 1991 740 with the straight 4. I am wanting more power and was curious if I can do a swap with maybe a five cyl with the turbo. I assume I have to pick the same year but was wondering if its possible and if it would even be worth it.
I also found a dead 1987 740 I was going to buy for parts but wasnt sure if anything is interchangeable?
Thanks

cool. good idea. it is possible to drop a 5 cylinder from a later model in, i have seen it done, the thing is the 5 cylinder is front wheel drive, such as that from an 850 for example. the best bet would be to get a 6 cylinder from a 960 (not the v6) and put that in as it will be rear wheel drive.

You *can* fit V8's in and have seen it done, but they are heavy and you will need a diesel 740 for them cos the sub frame is stronger.

be aware of everything that goes with the engine swap, you wont be able to use the same gearbox with the new engine, suspensions cos of a heavier block, brakes because of weight and power, cost will be a big one, but if you have money and the will and want to do it then go ahead!!!!

Matt
