Hi
This is my first post on this forum. I live in Australia.

I am interested in finding how and where I can source parts for my 1987 240 sedan online from within Australia. I know that the $US and Au$ are now very similar, but I am not sure about the cost of postage from the US to Aus, so I would prefer to source the parts from Aus.

We live in a country area outside Brisbane in Queensland, and driving all the way into Brisbane for a single part has now become an expensive petrol experience, not to mention the terrible traffic problems. One trip to my dealer would take about 4 hours and cost in the range of $35 in fuel.

There is a Repco dealer in a nearby town who might be able to help, but I'm not sure what parts they could source.

I do most of my own work on my car, so a mechanic is not really necessary.

Hopefully a member out there can point me in the right direction.

Regards

Alan

google around, be careful, make certain whether it's new/used/oem or not, be suspicious, try to find an enthusiast you can trust nearby who has a few wrecks..... study trading post etc to find regular buyers/sellers of bits, talk with them.....

I have 2 Volvos and I've come to the conclusion that it is usually far cheaper to get the parts I need from FCPGroton or IPDUSA (both in America) as Volvo outlets in here in Aussieland charge ridiculously outlandish prices and it seems to me the dealers are not really interested in maintaining reasonable cost spare parts outlets for Aussie Volvo owners.

Also, I keep a close eye on eBay (mainly UK) where the odd real bargain pops up from time to time. If it is a real bargain, and even though I don't need it, I'll still bid for it and then, if I don't need it somewhere down the line I'll list the bits and pieces on Aussie eBay.

You would know as well as me you rarely see any Volvo parts on Aussie eBay that really stand out and grab your attention - it's mainly junk regurgitated by the same get-quick-rich merchants who have no interest whatsoever in advertising a good range of quality parts.

There are one or two places in Victoria (and you probably have the equivalent in Queensland) that wreck various model Volvos, but you need to keep in mind it is usually a case of "all care - but no responsibility". I'm really puzzled as to where all the really good old Volvos end up.

Finally, if I am putting together an order from overseas, I usually wait until I have a few parts to order at the same time to keep the cost of postage down as postage, which up to a couple of years ago was quite reasonable, is now a fairly high cost imposition to get articles from either the UK or USA.

That's all the advice I can give you.

Best of luck with your looking.
