my wifes 2.0 turbo v40 is "making a whizzing noise" when turning left and right, it seems to come from the column???

any suggestions?

My V40 i.8ltr does this too- something to do with the power steering, on my car it sounds like seagulls in the distance- it has been doing it for a couple of years, it comes and goes.
