Well, not owner per se, we got my GF a beater to surprise her while she's out of town (currently I ferry her everywhere).

Its a 1990 Volvo 760 black station wagon (the turbo) with 240,000 mi.

I'm utterly amazed at how for everything wrong with it there's not a spot of rust except on a few screws. There are paint chips off it everywhere and the galvanization underneath is rust free (I'm still going to paint those asap).

We picked it up for $700, but the body, engine, and transmission don't seem to need overhauls, though the rest of it does.

I'm going to replace every fluid and filter in it (it even needs blinker fluid!), and it needs quite a few parts replaced too.

I have a paper chilton manual on order, and another CD based manual on order too.

I'm going to start searching the forums now, but if you can tell me what to look out for or watch out for lemme know.

Like, I looked all over for type F ATF for the power steering - do I have to use it, or can I use a modern ATF or synthetic hydraulic fluid?

What about the auto transmission - I can get Redline D4 ATF locally, but I'll need the transmission filter and stuff, where do I get those?

And is anyone selling a complete interior to a 760 wagon? The interior was devoured by a dog.

Oh, quick question.

The check engine light is on. What type of computer interface can I use on my laptop to check it out with?

On my VW I use vag-com which is superior to OBD-II. I assume volvo has their own system as well.

More questions!

I think I should change the timing belt too. I'll need the belt itself and...?
I assume water pump. Do I need to change all the pulleys and tensioner? What are the part #s?

Where is the best place to buy a timing belt kit?

Also, about the transmission fluid change. I assume the rear axle fluid is the differential fluid?

welcome and congrats. it's an obd I in the chiltons it'll descibe the procedures for the code retrieval. check out fcpgroton.com for replacement parts. it's one of the cheapest around. for modding, try ipdusa.com post some pics. good luck.

Lol, no pics till I replace the door seals. I pulled them off to discover rust! Oh well, it is 18 years old.

The interior is seriously a mess, the only good thing about it is the seat covers we got, lol.

I might post pics in a few weeks once its been mechanically restored, but aesthetically tis still a beater.
