I just bought a Volvo 1997 850....and when I say just bought I mean like 3 hours ago. When I was at the dealers I asked why the radio didnt work and they told me I needed to get some code to program in. I looked thru my paperwork and found the code, tried it and it still wont work. I can hear the antenna trying to come up or whatever, but its not....so, for now, no radio. Also, in my haste and excitement I didnt open the trunk....and now, come to find out none of the keys will open it. Iam now officially at a loss.......Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If the code with your paper work does not work, it probably means that it is not the original radio that came with the vehicle. The Volvo parts department will have to look up the code using the serial number on the radio itself. This should be done at no charge since you just got the vehicle. The antenna is a different matter. If it is trying to go up and does not it needs to be replaced. You might be able to get away with just replacing the mast if the motor is ok. Sounds like your key situation is that you have a valet key. Try the key for the glove box and see if it works. Grats on the ride.

welcome to the forum and congrats on your 850. when you tried to enter the code, how did you go about it? proper way, turn key to position one, all the **** lights come on, no engine. let it sit like that for about two hours, the display will change. enter code using the preset buttons. and viola... poof... radio playing. now about your antenna, +1 on mkc70's suggestion. they sell repair kits for the mast, runs about $10. with mine, all i got was the valet key so i just open all the doors with the key fob and the trunk opens when all four doors are open. other than that, you will need a key made from the dealer, prob around 3 bills. keep us posted as to your situation with the radio.
