Hi guys,

I'm not too familiar with the Volvo 940 - so you'll have to bear with me here. My Dad's 1998 945 2.3 LPT Petrol Auto's A/C has packed in. A/C is something that I am not familiar with either!

Following a few threads I've done the following:

Top up the R134a gas. Level appears to be fine.

I've located the clutch, which appears not to engage when it should, upon start-up etc. Running a line to the battery however has shown that it does in fact work.

I've read that there could be some dodgy soldering points on the circuit board? My question, where is this circuit board exactly - And how do I access it?!

I am happy to work with a soldering iron - it's just, this is my Dad's car - pride and joy, bought new, still mint condition, last 940 registered in Ireland - I feel a bit of pressure and I don't want to screw it up. I usually repair my own cars so if you guys have any step by step instructions, it would be very much appreciated!

Thanks very much.

Greetings from Kentucky,
My 92 940 had the same problem, I believe the thermo sensor in the evaporator housing may be staying open. It's purpose is to keep the evap from frosting up. I have actually by-passed it by supplying 12v from the cigarette socket (crude but, effective) You may want to get a proper wiring diagram to make this easier to track.
Good luck
Eric
To actually answer your question, the climate control panel with the fan switch etc. is the one they are talking about

Well the hard part is getting the MCC out of the dash.

1) You have to take the ignition panel off. (using a screwdriver - clips off).
2) The ciggaret lighter. (take out the little panel around the lighter - screws underneat).
3) The radio.
4) now you have access to the screws and bolts that hold the MCC in.
5) disconnect the vaccum hose (gently).
6) Take the MCC and further disasemble to get to the board.
7) check for cracks in the soldering, if you do not see any just resolder what is showen in the link I have attached.
8) check it before reassembling it all back into place.
