Hi there,

I have a daily driven 1997 V40 T4 which occasionally stalls at idle (once a fortnight). About 95% of the time when the car stalls, i loose most of the vehicle electrics (radio, tacho, speedo, etc). If i wait about 2 to 5 seconds, the car will start and drive normally.

I have tried using my spare set of keys (from what i can figure out there is a sensor for the key / ignition lock) but the problem occurs which ever key i use. Are the key coded to the ignition lock? If so, this is most likely my problem.

I have had that before. In my case it was a dodgy battery lead; the violent jump of stalling was causing the contact to fail, hence all the instrumentation died. The only reason I know of for all the display to fail is that here is no battery connection. I'd suggest thoroughly cleaning the battery terminals and checking that the ground lead is securely attached as a first point of call!

Hi there,

I cleaned the battery terminal and it all good now. Curiosuly enough i had the same problem in previous 1998 S40. looking back now, the problem stopped when the battery failed and i repalced it.
