Oil leak from some plug on the lower end of the motor , next to the freeze plug , noone to help me with the other issues I have . Thanks , yes I am angry I spent 4 hours trying to figure out the hoses and diagrams in my chiltons and none of it is like it is on the car .

Appologies-what's a freeze plug? I haven't heard that name before-do you mean a welch plug- describe more pls. BTW it might not be the right model, or the car might be wrong anyway???? Esp if not OEM parts.

PS Pls refresh your page occasionally while you wait for help, it will assist you. Not all things automatically refresh the viewed pages. then you can know if a real time converstaion can occur, like now. I'v ehung around for abt 10 min, but no response yet, I'll give it 15 more til 1300hrs @ GMT + 8.

I've never heard it called anything else but a freeze plug , you knock it out and install an engine block heater . . I'm sorry if I get all frustrated and spun up . I'm use to going on jeep forums (my other car in a jeep) and having tons of people update and post everytday . Im guessing the world of cars is way different. The vacume lines on this 244 are way messed up . On the manifold there are 3 spots where vacume or rubber lines go someplace . mine only 2 are connected . add that with the electrical taped back together flame trap and you can see the begining of my problem . and there are hardly any real volvo enthusiests here , just alot of moms in 740 wagons .

I guess my climbate is just too warm, I know nothing about this plug, except that it's obviously there. Our local cars and jap imports never mention them, AFAIK. Even in Tas, with all its snow and ice, I've never heard of them. The idea isn't bad tho. I guess its what I call a welch plug. A knock-in inverted metal cup used to close holes in the casting of the block necessary for its manufacture. they only penetrate the water jacket. They have a history of coroding, or coming loose on old cars? Which motor do you have, and where exactly is this leaking bolt please? I'll try to inform you what it does/why it might leak.

My Win hardrive has just died, and I'n not inclined to reset up my linux one just to have my auto CDs working again, so I can't be much more precise help than gussing and suggesting obvious things.

beware the other car, Just Empty Every Pocket, as they say......., & they tell me Chrysler are getting into some difficulties, so be careful what you own..........nevertheless good luck, and I'll keep trying if you want me to.

Now gentlemen. There are a number of us that check the forum daily. I have found that if a member has any information they will post it. Had I had any information I would have posted. Be patient and usually you'll get your question addressed.

get back to the topic at hand please.

So does anyone have a clear picture of the flame arrestor I believe its called. And how it ties into the vacume system etc. My Chiltons book is as clear as mud on it. I have seen pictures of a tee installed before it snakes under the manifold. I have ordered a different manual , and have the parts on order. Also on the top of the manifold are 3 conenctions , currently I have 2 hoses connected but nothing on the 3rd one . I've tried to attach a picture of it . it's on a 79 . I can provide the vin if needed .

And this is one of the reasons they are situated in a block.

One reason welch plugs are fitted into an engine block is if the internal pressure gets too high in the water jacket they are supposed to blow out and thereby prevent the block from cracking.

The other reason is to act as a sacrificial node where electrolytic action (i.e. a minute electric current that is always present where there is moisture and dissimilar metals) attacks the cheap, and easily replaceable welch plug(s) instead of attacking the metal of the engine block. (I realise some engines have a welsh plug sitting right at the back of the engine adjacent to the firewall - making it an engine-out job to replace a stupid little welch plug - grrrrr.)

That's O.K - just keep in mind first impressions can be lasting impressions.

It's possible Jeeps may have a lot more irritating faults than Volvos for people to write up about. One of my vehicles is a 240 estate wagon with about 400,000 kilometres on the clock but it just keeps purring along never giving any trouble therefore I don't have any need to write into the forum - so therefore I'm probably one of those types you are referring too.
