Looks good. Is it legal to do this in CA. If it is legal in KY I would like to do it. What product did you use? Step by step instructions?

Highly doubt it is legal in any state, but it does look sweet.

no, i remember having a set of sylvania's that were that dark on my tran am. stock numbers and legal in ny state. those look sweet, the corner could have been one shade lighter, but all in all real sweet looking. and yes please, step by step because you know, on the east coast, we run a little slower, or at least in KENTUCKY. moohahashshahahahahahahahahaha, oh sorry jks2. Geography lesson. Kentucky is not on the east coast. We are considered upper south. See Greek, you shouldn't have cut all those classes in school.

yeah the corners were too dark so i redid them. it took forever to sand with 1000 grade paper lol.

the best way to do this is with a spray gun useing tinted gloss. my dad explained it to me kidna but i'm not allowed to touch his spray guns anymore so i went to a hobby shop and got the "window tint" spray. or it might be called transparent black. all hobby shops should have this. its not as good as if you used a spray gun but i had no choice.

but for step by step:

1. take whatever you can off unless you want to mask. i didn't for the headlights cuz theres room.

2. sand the whole thing. i used 1000 cuz i sanded off all of the letters and numbers and stuff. you can also use 1500 or 2000. whatever you want. but i wouldn't recommend going under 1000. oh and wet sand it. use lots of water.

3. cleaning. you have to make sure that the lens is completly dry and clean. to clean i just used some rubbing alcohol mixed with water. but you cant use other things as long as it something that doesn't leave any film or layer or anything.

4. painting. make sure that every thing is completly dry. a drop of water will mess everything up. and trust me, you do not want to sand that stuff down. since this is transparent black, you need a lot of layers to get it dark. use a heat gun if you can or do it out in the hot sun. just make sure you dont do it too dark. one thing you have to remember is BE PATIENT. you need a lot of layers of this stuff to get it dark. this isn't regular paint. so wait for it to dry a bit between every couple layers.

i would recommend doing the lights side by side so they are exactly the same. its kinda hard to explain how to paint because this is different from regular paint. the best way is to try it out on a broken light or something first to see what it is like. i just had an extra corner light.

but basically you spray a layer or two then wait a little or use some heat. then some more and so on. heat is good but dont melt the plastic. you keep on spraying untill you get the darkness you want. but dont get it too dark because you cant reverse it. you would have too sand it down all the way and start all over.

i didn't use clear coat cuz it shines good. but i guess you can for extra protection.

then you just wait for it to dry. longer is better. try using some heat though. i let it dry in the cold over night and it didn't run but the bottem was a little darker than the top. so put it out in the sun if you can or something.

i'm not sure if this is any good. its kinda hard to explain painting. its just something you have to try.

dont make it too dark. too light looks better than too dark unless you have a black car... and even then sometimes too dark sucks.

Thanks for the step by step. Plenty clear for us. My sons 850 is black so that was why I was interested in doing it. My S60 came from the factory with some tint. I noticed your bumper was not looking the best. You might want to recoat it. Duplicolor makes a bumper coating that is black. Clean the bumper really well, mask off the areas where you don't want paint and give it a couple of coats. Really makes the car look better.

one thing i just noticed is that if the paint is cheap, it kidna turns a different color after it dries. mine turned greenish but its fine for me cuz my car is dark green. but its not noticable really. i'll get a pic. anyways i would recommend a test light or something. just find a small corner light or anything at the junkyard or something...

haha, wow im not sure about it, but the wife likes it. i think the head lights are too dark, let me explain, first of my light lenses have some miles on them, it snows here and they drop sand often, resulting in nicked up front areas. My lenses suffered bad, so i tinted the inside, this is three coats, the first wasnt covering in the groves and ran, the second coat was blending in the first, that third coat was to even it all out. the corners have the same three coats. well, i put them back on and pow, looks like my car is sporting the latest raybans. :haha: kinda scary looking. i like them but i will be purchasing some e-code lenses to replace these if i have a problem. ok i drove around today, and turned some bacon heads, now im in the process of stripping the inner coating, im going to do it on the outside instead.... the ripples inside the lens collected the tint, made it super dark. So im more for seeing at nite than the look, but why diidnt you (member original poster) snap the clips off the lens and tint them away from the car? easier... will post up the pics later.
