I have a 2007 V70XC with the dealer-installed iPod adaptor and have had no problem to date with my iPod or the first generation iPhone -- although I am not crazy about being limited to the first 10 playlists.

But the new 3G iPhone displays a message indicating that it will not charge in this adaptor. Everything else is the same, but it will not charge when hooked up to the Volvo iPod adaptor.

This is a *major* problem as the new phone's battery life is not great.

Any ideas how I can remedy this? Is a newer adaptor that *will* charge the iPhone?

umm i dont know about a new adapter but i do know that apple changed the way that they charge the 3g phone and that i has been a bigggg issue in a lot of places i think the best thing to do is to call apple and see which adapters are 3g ready. their isnt really much else u can do

I just noticed the same thing w/ my rig, the charging changes seem to have bitten.

On another note- an oft-not-thought-of thing to consider with the iPhone-

If you don't like the controls / playlist restrictions / etc that the Volvo adapter presents you can fix it on an ad hoc basis with the iPhone/iPodTouch.

Connect the phone/pod. It will drop you the into the music player mode. You'll have the 'accessory connected' screen there. Just hold down the 'home' button for 5-10 seconds, the application will force-quit. Then, select the iPod app again and you have manual control!
