Hello All
I am in the process of rebuilding the turbo on my 2000 S70. I sent the wheel assembly to a turbo expert and was informed that the assembly could not be balanced do to the compressor wheel fins being bent because I sandblasted it. The fins do not look any different to me after sandblasting than they did before and they certainly do not look bent. I think the "expert" has never seen a compressor wheel from a Volvo Turbo (Mitsubishi TD04)
Can anyone on this list verify from a picture of the compressor wheel if the fins look bent. I'll try to attach some.
Thanks for any replies.
Tom

It doesnt look bent on my naked eye. But if he was really serious, he should have showed you the area that was bent (a chalk would do fine).

The turbo tsefu here, even puts the turbine on the machine to show customers all about it.

Hey Ampang,

Shouldn't this thread be transferred to the S70 section of Volvo-forums.com?

Something like that is very difficult to tell from a photo. If sandblasting has bent anything, I would think it would be one of the 6 large fins as they would be the weakest.

If one is really bent, my guess would be the one on the right side of your second picture. The one that shows the most dramatic upward bend. However this may very well just be camera angle playing tricks.

As was mentioned above, I would take it back to the guy and have him show you which one(s) are bent. Just as a side note (although I expect you have inspected it pretty close), have you looked closely at all the large fins to see if there might be any kind of mark or evidence of it beging dropped? Or possible tool marks where it might have had attempts at correcting it?

Thanks for the replies. All the fins on the wheel look the same. I can't see any evidence of bending. I had trouble communicating with the balancing expert. He is in Utah and I am in NY. I purchased the ribuild kit from him (Ebay) and it included balancing if I sent the wheels, mounted on the shaft to him.
I think I will reassemble the turbo and try it. Nothing to lose. It's the wife's car and she never pushes it anyway.
I will let you know what happens.
Tom
Something must be amiss with my email. I did not receive any notice of replies.

As for Notice of replies, I think you actually get two options to work with. One is the checkbox available when you post a topic or reply. The other is to subscribe to the topic itself, which is done elsewhere.

I have had the same issue as you are expressing and I think it is due to the checkbox choice. As each reply has a REPLY button, you may only get notified by this method if someone actually clicks the REPLY button on one of your posts, and may not get notification if someone clicks REPLY to someone else's post here (even though you started the topic).

For important topics I would suggest using the subscribe to topic instead.
