Hi all

I have had this car for a few years now and the initial starting idle is "terrible" I have had a few mechanics look at it but it never seems to get better. Although as soon as it warms up it purrs like a kitten and have no further trouble with it. (unles it rains but thats another topic)

It is the leaded fuel model and I am using unleaded with lead valve replacement fluid. I am not sure if this may cause the problem?

I am thinking if adding some kind of fuel cleaner into the tank might help.

Anyway if any of you guys can help it would be much appreciated.

Mate !!!! I have an 81 GLE and , I had the same problem...Check a few things out

1) The fuel level in your tank...make sure it's not too low.( This is important)
2) Clean the cold start injector...this always helps.
3) This part is not good, before you start the car, check out the underneath side of your Oil filler cap, and make sure you do not have a Latte coloured substance there. if you do you may have a cracked Head, this would indicate water in your OIL, and why it idles after it warms up. You may have to remove the head and have it modified so as to accomadate the low compression, and be able to use unleaded.
This may cost around $450 AUD.
