hi all,

i picked up a 99 s40 t4 on monday. 80k approx on clock, almost full volvo history.

i have notice a very slight whiff of oil coming from the vents when stopped. when i get out of the car at the end of a journey, there is a slight whiff of oil about the car.

when i test drove the car there was an oil leak from the oil filler cap - the rubber had perished and cracked, causing smoke to come form the engine bay. filler cap has been replaced - i have done about 70 miles since i got the car. place i got it from said they would clear up any leakage, could it be i an just burning off any stray oil. as i said it it only a slight whiff (ie a passenger in the car yesterday did not notice it).
no smoke when starting or when running / hot.

any ideas?

Chances are its just the oil left thats burning off. Does the car leave any oil behind when you have parked? If not I would just watch the oil level and see if the smell drops of after another 100 miles or so.

thanks for getting back to me - i have not noticed any oil on the ground where i park - at work or outside my house. there has been no drop in oil evident (only had it 4 days). will keep an eye on it.
