the really nice thing in Oz over last 15 years is that the people who hated Volvo drivers [and Volvos] just to be trendy now have a massive problem to hate which is the 4WDs [or I think americans say SUVs]

nobody says anything about me or my 30 yr old 264 anymore because they are too busy escaping from mad housewives terrorising the shopping centres in these huge rigs

I must say that the same is quite true here as well. 4WDs are making a big killing! Especially those that look like 'mini-trucks':- Pickups, etc. :haha:

But then again, I tend to see more and more of 240 series on the road, nowadays. Wonder where they came from.

well my memories of driving up east coast rd to Mersing and avoiding those huge timber trucks with no brakes I guess it is good to have as big a car as possible

also back then in 1985 when on business in KL our local manager [Carrier Air] used to drive me around in his Volvo - I think a 244 and could it have been deisel??? - most I remember was air con worked well in that sweltering heat, and most European cars eg Alpha Romeo in Singapore had useless air con, suitable only for Europe

Oh, MERSING?

Wow! My last memories of travelling via Mersing was well, couldn't be categorised as memories anymore... :haha: It was a looooong time ago. Nowadays, there are many new highways to the East Coast. One pretty 'longer' is the new Lebuhraya Pantai Timur.

This is where I usually test my ride's capabilities, on the way to my parents' in Kuantan. :) Usually the timber trucks only use the old trunk roads where they need not forkout any$$ for tolls. :)

Come give us a visit again. I'd prolly be in Canberra next year.
:)

OK...this is an old forum...but in fact...VOLVO's do rule.
I have had my '89 760 GLE for almost a year now and I cant imagine driving anything else. To get a Mercedes or BMW of the same year/quality would cost three times as much in price and repairs! Even with 190,000 miles on it, this thing drives so smoothe and shows no signs of giving up. It seems as though it will run forever.
The only people who knock Volvos are people who dont know Volvos. Before I owned this car I never really thought about Volvos at all....now I cant imagine my life without mine! If I ever wreck it or lose it somehow, I will run right out and get another one....same year/model/color.(Dolphin Grey w/ grey and black leather interior). I just had the timing chains done and in another two years she will be ready for a minor rebuild....after that it will likely last for well over 500,000 miles.
For about $3000 Canadian dollars.......come on haters.....that is serious bang for the buck.
All you haters in your new, overpriced, junky rides need to clue in.
Some of you have paid $20,000 to $30,000 for a Korean car!
If you think they will last even 200,000 miles you are wrong!
And you think we are stupid for driving and maintaining and "old piece of shit" as you would call it?
You are the real idiots and you will soon find out just how dumb you are when you try and sell your disposable car after a few years. Good Luck!
Volvos Rule Bitches!!!
