Hi Gentlemen, and I assume Ladies.

Can you toss a newbie a bone?

Is a Volvo certified warranty transferable nowadays?

I sold a 2001 V70 CPO to a fellow and I know he got it transfered for $25, but that was back in 2004.

I now have an S80 CPO that might be easing down the road. I need to know if the certified status can transfer. The Volvo official site was quite non-helpful.

Anyway, although I have not posted here i have lurked and absorbed a lot of goodness off this site. I do all my own maintenance and the technical pointers are quite helpful like how to find the pollen filter and how to reset the service indicator.

Thanks in advance for any help with the certified question.

I would assume by "certified status" you mean the having the official Volvo seal as a "certified used Volvo". As such, I believe it requires being inspected at a Volvo center, prior to the sale, which is why all such certified vehicles are only sold by the dealers.

I really don't see how someone who buys a certified vehicle and then a few years down the road decides to sell it, can say it is still Volvo certified, when all sorts of things could have occurred that would not pass the (whatever number of inspection points Volvo does) certification process Volvo would do in order to claim it to be certified.

If your previous vehicle you transfered the status on was given for a $25 fee but no inspection was done, then they simply took $25 of your money for nothing and gave no actual assurance that the vehicle actually passed the necessary inspections to gain certified status.

However, what you are asking might be something other than this, if so, I guess a little clarification would be needed.

We have a well repected dealer (well, repspect and expensive, not necessarily liked) in town I can check with once I know for certain what it is you are looking for.

All in all, I would expect they would want you to bring the vehicle in to be inspected to their satisfaction before they would give any official certification status to go along with the vehicle. This might be avoided if you have always had the vehicle service by them and they have all the records of such, in which case they should already know the condition of the vehicle pretty well, and might just transfer the status to the new owner (aside from that I don't see how any certification would mean anything if they don't actually inspect the vehicle t hemselves first).

Good luck. Let me know if I am on the right track here, if not try to clarify it a little and I will check with the dealer in town and see what they say.

thanks for the kind reply.

I think it can indeed transfer at least according to "intellichoice" here:
