I'm trying to put freon (or whatever we call it now) into my 1986 240 DL. Haynes manual says never put it in top side, but the only place I see to put refrigerant in is on the top next to the "eye" where one can see if there's fluid or not. Got a retro kit from Strauss Auto, but none of the adapters will fit. Assuming I can load the stuff in on the "top side" which looks like it's where it's supposed to go, where can I get an adapter that will fit?

you are running the old freon. you will need to have it evacuated and retrofitted with the new r134a. sorry bro.
