I own a 88 760 sedan turbo. 180,000 miles. it runs good. i have 1 major problem that i cant solve. there is a intermittent knocking coming from the car when the motor idles in neutral or in gear, but under load it goes away. it gets super loud and is embarrasing.

I have thought all along that it might be the lower end, but it didnt make sence that it ran so good and was dependable.

so, i crawled under it today and discovered that the noise is actually coming from the bell housing not the engine. I think its the torque converter or maybe something inside there is loose and maybe when the car is running the torque converter is rubbing it??

does anybody have any insight or know an easy fix??? has anybody had this same problem???

Help!

so your car is automatic?

if it was a manual i would have said it been the thrust bearing on the clutch or something like my 940 is currently doing, too many burnouts has ballsd the clutch up.

ok, no need for the sarcasm, some people here arent sure about they're cars so was just clarifying.

Is the auto fluid burnt or discoloured? any pressure blow out of the dip-stick when it is running?

Matt
