Hello all,

I am new to Volvo's and am usually a Vw rabbit guy. I have been enlisted to work on my sisters 81 240. The symptoms started with running worse and worse (my sisters description) to the point of not starting. Since it was in need of it anyway i picked up new plugs, cap, rotor, and coil. I have spark going into the distributor but not at the plugs or wires.

i know the wire is good, which left me with the hall sensor. I guess does this sound like it could be a hall sensor? Also, the car has the chrysler cap and rotor and was wondering what all was involved in switching it over to bosch since all the volvos at the JY are bosch dist. Thanks for any and all input. Sorry about being a Volvo noob
:460: <--- never seen that one before

You have spark leaving the coil going into the distributor but no spark at the wires? remove the cap and watch if the rotor turns while cranking - suggesting the timing belt is still good.

Welcome to the Volvo World. The Chrysler unit has it's problems, but many are still in service without their first breakdown. I don't know if the units are directly interchangeable, or if the Chysler was for specific systems only.
