Hey, t'was wondering what everyone around these parts thinks of ECU upgrades - being re-programming the fuel injector computer (from what I understand?). I got a quote from a guy a friend of mine recommended of $250, inc. overnight shipping both ways. Supposedly this yields fantastic results, anyone with past experience, warnings, or comments? Thanks!

TheGreekMason - I'm well aware of iPd, however they are very overpriced... $1k for the ECU upgrade, when many other places, such as the company im going with, offer it for $200-$300 ;)

there's a reason for that. all the others that i have seen or have had people who have used them were all dissappointed. the thing is, it's not like a chip where you would pop it out and put a new one in. or like a superchips tuner card, or one of those piggyback units. this is the whole thing. you will get a softloader program. unless you need the whole ecu done. my R's had the two big companies, ipd did one and the rica tune on the other. they were within $100 of each other. and other than a custom tune, i haven't had anybody beat me yet. off the line or at the end of the road. all i can say is i hope this isn't a ripoff or a tune that will get erased when you put in a code scanner. if all goes well, congrats. keep us posted as to your progress. i am really sure that there a whole bunch of 70 owners who will be watching this post. i just checked, get the program upgrade for like $450.

TheGreekMason,

Thanks for your response. http://www.speedtuningusa.com/ is the website of the company that offered it for the $200-$300 range. I just read a review by 2 happy customers of SpeedTuing (known as ST around a different volvo forum), they all say that custom is better, but for 1/4 of the price, ST's is fantastic. If anyone here knows anything about ST, please let me/us know :D

Just break down and buy the HPT then do your mods. You will start at 236 hp then go to 270ish with a tune.

funny, i tried to access the website, and it tells me its down. oh well. hey hastings, before you do it, find out what is actually going to be done to your ecu. and why is it so cheap. i have never heard of them, but if they are good.....hopefully. just get everything down first, in writing, and talk to those other two who bought the upgrade.
