Anyone know how I can take out my 850 steering wheel and if a s70 or 960 can fit?
Probably the only thing I don't like from the 850 is the huge "truck" wheel.
I will appreciate any info.
Thanks

airbag. just make sure that you disconnect the battery, then while it is disconnected, turn the key to release any residual power in the lines then remove the airbags and the wheel. and as far as them fitting, i wouldn't doubt it. good luck and post some pics before and after.

What? "truck" wheel?
Hey, come on!

Firstly, its the airbag inside that "truck" wheel that'll save your life 1 day.
Secondly, that big feeling also gives the 'secured' feeling, it is supposed to.

In anycase, if you still want to remove it, there are just 2 torx screws at the back of the steering wheel for you to remove. You'll need to start the car, turn the steering 90 degrees. Switch the engine off, and reach the torx screws from behind the wheel. Then start the car again, and turn to the other side 90 degrees and repeat.

DONT pull the steering just yet!

Switch the ignition off. If you want to disconnect the battery, this is the time to do it. (I didnt see the need for that when i did mine). The center airbag piece is now removable. Carefully disconnect the wiring, slowly and taking yourtime. Dont rush on this.

THen remove the middle big-nut out. And now, you can remove your steering wheel.
Same process reversed.

If you get ABS light after reconnecting, switch engine off,and redo the process.

Good luck.

Haha. I know. I won't planning to put a wheel with no airbag. I took a 960 wheel complete. It's smaller and with some wood. Still it's gonna be a volvo right?
I'll put some pics before and after. You'll see.

Thanks for all the steps. You're helping me a lot.

Oh my GAWD!!!!!.....you're killing me. My very first post was the very same question and I got 100 views and 1 response, which was 'maybe'. Damn....this guy kick you all back a few bucks or what? (www.volvo-forums.com/index.php?showtopic=19305&hl=):puzzled:

Oh well.....you got the answer, but I asked FIRST, so :bwekk:

But seriously, I wanna change the wheel on my '95 (was a '94 in my original post), and the one response I got warned me of a possible compadability problem between my OBD1 car and an OBD2 wheel/airbag. My '95 has OBD1 and OBD2, so I'm guessing it shouldn't be a problem, right? And just out of curiosity, I assume both systems work the same way they would if there were only one, correct? Will an OBD2 code reader and the OBD1 terminal under the hood both clear codes in the system?

Sorry bout that, Rosso.
Sometimes, we make assumptions in our minds before answering.
:)

But answering your question on the compatibility, yes, i would think the system would be able to handle the same airbag.

Say, thats cool and all putting a bag inplace of a bag, but what about a true racing steering wheel? like, MOMO claims to have a kit to delete the bag, and install a MOMO indy style detach wheel. What do you guys think bout that, i know saftey recomends keep the airbag, but....... The MOMO one looks sooooooo good!

I agree that some MoMo steerings DO look oh-sofreakin delicious. If i had my 240 by now, i'd swap it in a blink!

But for the T5, errr, lets just say i prefer to play it safe.
HAHA!

Most of us survived just fine before airbags, and we'll be fine without them too. I'm of the opinion that airbags are designed to save the morons who don't wear their seatbelts. And really, why do we bother? The gene pool needs a little chlorine every so often. So wear your seatbelt and put in the Momo.

haha  im wit ya there! im going for the momo deal with the matching pedals and hopefully i can match the rest of the interior too. but my question was really what is the cross application for the steering wheel? on my old 95 civic i used the grant kit off a 91 civic, now i know civics and 850s are apples and oranges, but im sure its just as easy?

for swed, i don't think that there is an aftermarket kit for volvos. i mean, i am sure that you can buy a wheel and it will work, but aesthetically, the steering column is huge on the 850, i am not sure how pleasing it will look with a smaller wheel. and to rosso, i remember your post, and like bear said, sometimes we assume too much. i know i did. and i also agree with rosso's second post, but we also have to live in a society that basically frowns down upon the modder when it comes to things like this. in ny, you would fail your yealy inspection for not having an airbag that is federally controlled. hell, when i got my permit, the car that i was driving around didn't even have seatbelts (1954 chevy). and that was in '85.

momo makes a racing kit for the 850. i have not seen this on a american version yet, but youtube, damn you youtube, has many vids of UK 850s with momo style wheels, again, the civic was an easy deal.

Urrrm, do you know that the airbags in our Volvo will NOT DEPLOY, if you do not buckle up?

Evidently research has shown that the use of airbags without the seat-belts would only cause more injuries to the driver/passenger(s).

So, with respect to your posting, with no seat-belts, and no airbags, i think the 'morons' are really doomed.
