I think I need to replace my flasher switch....my right turn signal is blinking fast like one of the lights has burnt out, only..the lights are good to go. So, I figure it's the flasher and I go out and buy a replacement. One problem: I can't find where the damn thing is supposed to go. None of the manuals I can find have a diagram that tells me what I need to know...can anybody here tell me what I need to know?

This question may sound stupid, but what does the replacement turn signal unit look like?

Was it sold to you as being a direct replacement part for a Volvo 850?

I have always been under the impression the flasher unit is an integral part of the complete hazard warning unit. The hazard switch on the dashboard is actually part of this unit (the part you can actually see) and to get at the unit you would have to remove the complete unit from the dashboard.

I think the whole hazard unit is enclosed in a housing that's held firmly into the dashboard by a spring clip attached to each side of the housing.

It may be possible to use a couple of small screwdrivers or similarly fine bladed tools to carefully wedge in under the housing and, slowly by applying steady pressure/leverage, ease out the housing and the enclosed hazard unit from the dashboard.

It may pay to protect the dashboard surface with tape to prevent/lessen any damage if the screwdriver happens to slip.

I wont change it until and unless the system makes a clear indication that something is amiss.
