Hi,

I am considering buying a 2005 V50 with just under 39k miles. The dealer has offered to certify it for an additional $1300. This will extend the factory 4 yr/50k mile warranty to 6 yr/100k miles. The origianl warranty will be up in May '09. If I pay to certify it, the warranty will be until May 2011 or 100k miles. What are your opinions? What about options for purchasing an extended warranty when the original expires? Thanks a lot!

From personal experience I would recommend you purchase the extended warranty.

I did just that with a 3 year old, extending out the warranty by 2 years - and was thinking I had wasted my money until the ECU went within a few months of the extended warranty finishing. This reportedly would have cost me AU$2000 to fix.

Now - I am talking Audi and not Volvo, so this isn't a commentary on Volvo reliability - more an indication of what I will do when my own V50 factory warranty comes close to expiring.

:) I also would purchase the extended warranty..Volvo's are costly to repair not only in parts but labor too....For $1300 additional, its certainly cheap piece of mind insurance...It cost me $2400 to add two years/24,000 miles when I bought my 2002 S80, T6...Have used it twice to almost $1500 dollars, so still in the hole a bit..

$1300 seems a great deal on that kind of coverage. When I worked at Acura in finance, our certification cost $495-595, and then the full wrap to get the "full coverage" was another $895 cost plus the service dept costs for getting certified.
