Hello everyone. Was wondering if anyone has had a similar problem. Since the price of gas is getting unreal, I decided to check the locking lid to keep everyone honest. In using the remote locking pad, locking the car did not lock the gas lid. Went in and took the motor out and tried it again, motor reacts to unlock but not lock. Pulled the long stem out in the lock position and hit the un-lock button on the remote and it retracted but will not extend to close when I hit the lock button.
Bought a new one because I thought the reversing part was no good and the new one does the same thing. So now I don't know what to look for. I took it for granted that it worked when I bought the car in 2004. The car is a 2001 S80.

Happy 4 of July.
Thanks.
David

Thats odd. Not sure what would cause it to work one way not the other especially when you bought a new one.

Its meant to do this lol, It has a delay of about 5 minutes on it, the idea being you lock the car when you get out at the petrol station but can still fuel it, I think you can have this disabled at the dealer or it might be a regional thing because mine doesn't do it.

JAJRST,
Thanks you are 100% correct. I took the old one and placed it back in place. Locked the car and while walking away from it I heard another lock sound and checked the gas lid and it was locked.
The car is garage kept here at home and it is never locked and like I stated never checked it before.

Thats way these forum places are a great place, there is a lot of knowledge out there.
Again thanks,
David

J. David,

No Problem, Glad I could help :) You'll find a few strange things with this car like the air con randomly turning on about an hour after you turn the engine off to dry out the system, It happend to me the other day and I thought something was very wrong! Hope you can get a refund on the second motor :),

Josh

Yes they will give me a refund but because it is electrical they charged me 15% restocking fee. Better that than nothing.
The car is mainly driven by my wife, she uses it for work and when she pulls into the garage, it is almost exactly one hour and the air will kick on like you said. Seems to happen especially in humid hot weather.
A friend had an older 735 BMW and he said his did that also. He claimed it changed the quality of the air in the cabin, I say it was drying out the system also. But he can believe what he wants.
Everyone have a safe and happy 4th, and for our overseas friends drive careful and enjoy life.

I thought something was wrong with my S80 when I got back to the car one day the air conditioning fan was blowing althought the the car was locked. Now I hear from you guys that it's drying the system this way. Thanks.

Not sure about the 5 minute delay on re-lock., Mine locks automatically (Same as the Trunk) when you pull away after refueling at about 12mph..You can hear a faint click both trunk and gas lid....

I have a similar, but just the opposite problem. When I go into an automatic car wash, my gas lid is not locked and has been ripped off by the car wash. How can I make sure that the lid is Locked? Sometimes I am in the car sometimes I am not

If I recall correctly, you just use the lock 'button' from the inside of the car and lock all the doors including the gas cap cover/door. Not sure if you have to wait a few minutes for is to lock or if it will lock immediately. I would suggest you get someone to stand outside the car when you test to see if it locks using the button.
Let us know what you find....

you are correct. If I am in the car and lock the doors, then wait a bit the the gas lid will close.--------That's OK if I am in side the car for the car wash, but sometimes the make you get out. What can you do then???

I am sure it will also lock if you use the remote but if you have an alarm you must then to through the procedure of disabling the tilt/motion detector portions of the alarm. It tells how to do this in the owners manual. If you don't have a manual, I think you might be able to download one from Volvo or let use know and we can post the procedure here....
