Hi,
2001 V70, HU-803 Wireless.
Neither of the rear speakers seem to work.If I adjust balance/fade, can just about hear a "bass-ish" sort of sound from them.
Any idea where I should start looking for the fault?
How do you, and how easy is it to remove the radio ?
Questions ,questions , questions!
Thanks in advance.
Cheers
Ian K

Your problem could be due to several things, in regards to the speakers. I am assuming by the "wireless" mention that you are referring to the head unit having wireless capability but not that the rear speakers themselves are operated wirelessly (maybe they are...never seen a car done that way).

Anyways, there have been reports that the glue used in the volvo speakers that hold the magnet to the cone did not adhere well and over time the magnets have fallen off. It is possible that this could cause your problem. If any sound at all would come from such a separated speaker it would be a very low (at high volume) hissing sound of sorts.

If you have a separate OEM amplifier, then the amplifier itself could be dying (I doubt it, but it is possible).

Also, the head unit could be faulty.

Initially, I would inspect the actual speakers.

Did this problem happen all at once? Thus, both rear speakers quit working at the same time, or have they gone out one by one over time? If both failed at the same time, then I would look for an electrical issue (amplifier or headunit). Have you recently had any occurance when the loss of sound happened? (ie: hitting large pothole, railroad tracks, other electrical issue, etc).

Hi,
Wireless is an old term for Radio ( this side of the pond anyway )
After a bit of thought, and playing around, problem seems to be linked to the dolby setting on the HU.
With dolby off, speakers work.(Radio and CD)
Dolby on, speakers dont work.Have tried all the adjustments I can get at, now a bit lost.

As best I can recall, as I havent used an on/off Dolby setting for a long long time, that is usually something intended for cassette tape use, unless it is in conjunction to a video capable head unit (also quite often when using a center speaker also), even then I don't think it is all that common.

Generally the Dolby standard is still in use but it is now more a standard thing rather than a bonus option one would turn on/off, unless you are still using cassettes or a cassette adaptor for an external unit, like an Ipod or MP3 player.

Unless you notice a real difference in sound quality with the Dolby on, I would suggest just leaving it off anyways.
