Hey guys,
I have 940 VOLVO 1992
and i have a serious problem.
The engine shuts down suddenly and it returns back after 30 seconds exactly
I went to the service center in cairo and they adviced me to check the following things:
-The fuel pump
-The sensors
and i changed them
I can drive it without this problem for a week..and it may shut down eyery day!
I have no problem in my lovely car except this problem.
Help me ,please!!!!!!

Hi,

Maybe you have some kind of problem with the imobilizer? (if you have one).
That 30 second delay is strange.

Hi there,

I've mentioned this to some chaps, and the first thing they recommend is that to check the ignition control unit. I suspect something electrical, perhaps the cold-start sensor..? Alon suggested the imobilizer, did that help...?

I've had this problem with my 1990 740GL when one of the wires came loose and the same with my previous 240GL, but 30-seconds EXACTLY....? rather funny...

It looks something like this..

My mother-in-law had the same problem on her '92 940. It least it sounds the same. She spent a lot of $$$ trying to fix it. She finaly gave up after another Volvo place told her she needs a new engine wiring harness for $1000. All it was the Fuel pump relay. I found it on one of the forums. The first day I took the car from my in-laws the engine stopped for a few seconds when I was driving on a highway. I didn't stop. The engine just picked back up. Next time it stopped when I was standing on a red light. It started right back up no problem. I parked on a side of a street pulled out the old relay and replaced it with another one I had pulled from a junk yard of a 240 a few months earlier. I've been driving it for almost two years since. The relay is located behind the ash tray on the fuse panel. It is about $30 new and very easy to replace. 940 uses the same relay as 240 and may be other models. Good luck

ahh you have to be careful, green for naturally aspirated engines and white for turbocharged engines :)
