I have a 2004 XC 70 with about 35000 miles. The vehicle has been totally trouble free but next month the factory warranty expires and I am wondering if it will fall apart the following day.

My original dealer is offering an extended warranty for 3 years 100000 miles for $3800. Is this needed?.. advisable?.. a rip off??? What are peoples experience from 35000 miles to 80000 miles? Are maintenance costs high?

I would love to hear from anyone with particular experiences that will give me any insight as to the best course of action.

I got my V70 2.4T with about 48K miles back in 2005.
I opted for the certified extended warranty for about $1100.00.
Last October, within one month of the ext warranty expiring, the trany was replaced at 75k miles.

Also had some suspension adjustments (twice) which were charged to the warranty. Had a wiring harness for the left head lamp replaced, which was not covered. These 2 were relatively minor issues regarding actual cost.

Currently (at 85000 miles) I have to replace a leaking left front strut, which will cost over $300. We are blaming that one on bad roads locally due to a harsh long winter... :crying:
