Hi folks:

I'm new to this forum and look forward to the great info here. I just bought a 2005 xc70 and I received one key, the remote, no valet or other remote. Is there a work around for the $325 it costs to get another? I am thinking of getting a valet key made for $160...in any case, it stinks so I thought I would check to see if anyone has a workaing alternative to the dealer?

Best,

AM

I also have the 940T for sale. I have more pictures on request 125K on odometer.

Dealer is pretty much your only option on the Volvo keys. They cannot be cut by your local locksmith. I tried.

Hi,

Keys have a transponder moulded into the key. Car won't start without it!
Remotes are made with an encrypted rolling code to stop thieves reading the code. The car is programmed to accept the remote code. The remote code is on a bit of paper with the new remote. So second hand (and new) remotes are useless without this code.

So unfortunately, Its an expensive trip to Volvo!

I had the same thing, bought 01 V70XC and the dealer only had a single master key -- no remotes. I ended up getting two keys and one remote for 302 at the local dealer. The first key was ~130. They charged ~24 for the second key but only hit me for a single programming charge for the keys and the remote.

Volvo seems pretty tight with the keys - only dealers can do the programming. Unless they open up and let locksmith's or other reputable shops get the equipment, this won't change... Other shops can do the remotes but I've read that it MUST be a new remote with the codes on the packaging.
